Big News for Tuvalu! A New Climate Shield is Here! 
The Government of Tuvalu—in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Development Bank of Tuvalu, Tuvalu Insurance Office and the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP)—has officially launched the pioneering High Tide Parametric Insurance Product! 
As coastal flooding and frequent high tides continue to threaten our homes and livelihoods, this initiative is a game-changer for community resilience.
What makes this special?
Unlike traditional insurance, this product provides fast, automatic payouts triggered by objective high-tide indicators. This means affected households get financial support exactly when they need it most—without the long wait for damage assessments. 
The Pilot Phase:
• Location: Funafuti
• Reach: Initially covering at least 400 households most exposed to climate shocks.
Leading the Way:
This massive partnership, supported by UNCDF, UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, and United Nations University – EHS, positions Tuvalu as a regional leader in innovative climate risk financing. Together, we are ensuring a more secure and resilient future for all Tuvaluans.
