The Development Bank of Tuvalu was established under the Development Bank of Tuvalu Act 1990 as a bank to carry on general banking business in according with accepted international banking principles and practices. It commenced operations on 24 June 1993 by taking over the assets and liabilities of the Business Development Advisory Bureau which was dissolved.
