A Historic Milestone for Climate Resilience in Tuvalu!
We are proud to announce that the Tuvalu Insurance Office under the Development Bank of Tuvalu has officially distributed the first-ever payouts under the new High Tide Parametric Insurance Product!
Following three severe high-tide events in March, a total of $AUD 30,675 was automatically disbursed to 409 households, with each family receiving AUD $75.
Why This Matters
• Zero paperwork: No claims or physical damage assessments were required.
• Instant relief: Funds went straight to families when they needed them most.
• Innovative protection: This program sets a new foundation for climate finance in our nation.
As our General Manager, Temukisa Pesega Siale, shared: “The product has worked as promised. No household had to submit a claim, and no family had to wait for a long verification process.”
Coordinator of the Tuvalu Insurance Office, Mr. Manatu Siose, added: “This moment is living proof that insurance is not just a concept on paper but a mechanism that delivers real, tangible support when it is needed most. May this milestone inspire confidence in the system we build and hope in the communities we serve.”
We extend our deep gratitude to our partners—including the Government of Tuvalu, the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP), the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), Pacific Reinsurance Limited, the Tuvalu Insurance Office, and the governments of Australia and New Zealand—for making this innovative financial protection a reality.
Together, we are building a safer, more resilient Tuvalu.
